November 19’ Valonia Competition.

On Saturday the 16th of November 2019 we held our third skate comp! This time at Valonia. And this time, with two seperate divisions! Whether the girls preferred to skate street, bowl, or both, they had a chance to lay it out in front of the judges in an under or over 13s full park and bowl division. With only two age divisions this time around, the stakes were high and the girls were working hard in the weeks leading up to the comp, practicing their lines and trying out new tricks.
The morning came around and the sun was shining, music was playing around the bowl, and the girls were up bright and early warming up.
Once our favourite MC Umberto Skinner arrived we got underway starting our first heats in the bowl. Under 13s began with over 10 participants entering and plenty of girls landing tricks for the first time in front of one of our largest crowds yet. Once the young ladies had finished shredding, the older girls came in with some massive airs, incredible lines and even some gnarly slams. The progression and style was real and it was a super close call on 1st, 2nd and third. After the bowl jam we had a short rest for lunch; sushi, sandwiches, cakes and cold drinks courtesy of all of the amazing parents in our little community. Not long after 1pm we kicked into the full park / street divisions. The girls were given two 90 second runs to show the judges their tricks and well practiced lines.
Over 25 girls throughout both divisions entered, and the uprising talent of female skateboarding in New Zealand was showcased with immense style and skill.
The end results were even harder to call, and were super close. Well done to all the girls who entered on the day, you all showed incredible determination and perseverance throughout the weeks leading up to the event. And especially on the day. You have all progressed so fast! And it has been amazing watching you all grow into beautiful young women and incredible skateboarders. Our youngest competitor of the day was 7 and eldest was 34, and all up we had 26 competitors on the day.
Big thank you to our sponsors! Without the support of our sponsors we wouldn’t have been able to make this happen.
Irrom Distribution for the never ending support. Hera Everyday Goddess, Boardertown, Vintage Girl NZ, Cheapskates Khyber Pass, Pro and Hop, Powell Peralta and of course NZ Sunscreen Company for keeping us safe from the sun!
And a big thank you to our judges!
Liam Haze, Leighton Dyer and Leigh Mckenzie. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your weekend to come down. And of course a big thank you to all the parents for all of the time you sacrifice to bring your girls down every week, and especially for the comp. From bringing the tables and chairs for the judges, to bringing ice, cold drinks and even homemade treats for everyone. I am so grateful and also wouldn’t be able to do this without you all!
Thank you all for coming! It was another amazing day spent in the sun with good vibes, good people & incredible skateboarding!
Until next time!
Amber xx

Congratulations to all the girls who participated on the day, it takes an immense amount of courage to get out there in front of everybody.
After watching most of you progress throughout our classes the past few months, I was extremely impressed with all of your runs and how much you all pushed yourselves.

Also a big thank you to all of our sponsors, to whom without the support we wouldn't have been able to make any of this happen.
Thanks again to: Tech Deck NZ, Acid NZ, Muckmouth, Manual Magazine, Thunder, Spitfire, Grizzly Griptape and Welcome Skateboards. Brad and the team from Skullcandy Offical NZ for their support.
Big thank you to Morri from Irrom Distribution, for the constant support with not just this comp, but everything throughout the year.

And also our judges for your time and neverending support:
Liam Haze, Melvin Myburgh and of course the queen of female skateboarding in New Zealand Georgina Mathews.

Thank you all of the girls who attended the day, and of course all of the parents for your unwavering support. Its greatly appreciated.

There's no doubt the atmosphere on the day provided an amazing environment for the competitors and the spectators. We couldn't have achieved any of this without our MC for the day Umberto Skinner, who always brings the hype!

Can't wait to do this all over again in a few months..
